- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
- Add molasses and egg to the butter mixture, then gradually combine with the dry ingredients.
- Shape the dough into balls and place them on baking sheets.
- Bake for about 8 minutes or until set but still soft.
- Allow to cool before icing.
- For the icing, mix powdered sugar and milk until smooth, then drizzle over cooled cookies.
