Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in the molasses, egg, and vanilla until well blended.
  5. Roll dough into small balls and place on a baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are firm.
  7. Let cool before decorating.

Notes

  • Chill the dough for about an hour for easier handling.
