  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1/4 cup colored sugar (for decoration)
  • 1 plastic baby (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast, let it sit until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla to the yeast mixture and mix well.
  3. Slowly add flour and salt, kneading until a dough forms.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread filling if desired, and form a ring.
  7. Place the ring on a baking sheet and let it rise again.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Mix powdered sugar and milk to create icing, and drizzle over the cooled cake.
  10. Sprinkle with colored sugar and hide the baby inside if using.

Notes

  • You can use different fillings like cream cheese or fruit jams.
  • Traditionally served on Fat Tuesday, but delicious any time of year!
